Well, I went from having no set summer racing plans to having a packed schedule! Thanks to Alabama Outdoors, David Tosch and Southeast Trail Runs, Birmingham Track Club, and Resolute Running, Birmingham will be jam-packed with some great trail runs this summer.
I feel like trail running has exploded in the past year—or maybe it’s because I actually started paying attention to it. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see more road runners discover how much more fun trails are.
Here’s my schedule:
July 4 – Peavine Falls Fourth of July Race – 8.2 miles
July 20 – Turkey Creek “Float Your Boat” Race – 8K
July 27 – Hotter N’ Hell Trail Race – 18 miles
August 10 – Ruffer Mountain Adios Summer Race – 15K
September 7 – BTC Trail Race – 14.25 miles
This means that I have to A) start trail running a LOT more and B) acclimate to the heat and humidity ASAP.
What races do you have planned for this summer? Or do you use the summer to train for fall races?

I’m missing Peavine Falls this year. So sad! I’ll definitely see you on July 27th though. And I haven’t heard of the Aug. 10th one — probably because I should pay more attention.

There’s a chance that we’ll be in Charlotte and miss Peavine too, but I put it on there in case 🙂 Adios Summer is an AO run! I’m excited for Turkey Creek and swimming in that waterfall after…

Just done the last race I had organised (a ten miler), so am looking for races over the summer and am hoping to get in a 10k, a 5k or two, and to do a lot of training for a marathon at the end of September (it’ll be my first!). Good work on getting a bunch of trail running races, they are A LOT of fun!

Congrats on training for your first marathon! Which one is it? Running short races is a great way to test your fitness while still keeping your legs fresh 🙂
